If you think you have to go to the beach for surfing, think
again! The enterprising folks in Munich are miles from any ocean, but there is an active surfing group there who get to surf
regularly without going far from home. How can this be? Take a
look at the photos.
The river Isar runs through the city, passing under a bridge and into the "English Garden".
Just after the water comes from beneath the bridge, there is a large rock which causes...you
guessed it, a very large wave! The beauty of it all is that this wave is predictable, and it is possible to launch from either
side of the shore from anywhere within about a 10 meter range.
So next time you want some good surfing, you may want to consider Munich. As you can see from these folks, they are having a great
time!
